Commissions

Commission Policy & Process

Thank you for your interest in commissioning a portrait. Please read the following commission policy carefully, as it outlines the terms, steps, and expectations for the creation of your artwork. After reading, you must complete the Commission Request Form.

Portrait Type & Background

  • At this time, only oil paintings will be accepted for commissions.
  • Mixed media options such as acrylic paintings, graphite, and charcoal drawings will be available at a later time.
  • Clients can choose from two options for the portrait:
    • Headshot (from the neck up)
    • Bust (from the chest up)
  • Clients may choose to have one or two people in the portrait (maximum of 2 people). This may affect your selection, depending on the artist's workload at the time.
  • Clients will be able to choose the background color for the portrait.

Pricing

  • Pricing for commissions begins at $1,000. The price will then vary depending on the client’s options selected during the consultation, including the size, complexity, and number of people in the portrait.

Payment Terms

  • A 50% deposit is required before the project begins.
  • The remaining 50% balance is due upon completion, prior to delivery or shipping.
  • Payments must be made via PayPal.

Revision Policy & Progress Photos

  • Clients are entitled to up to 3 revisions during the sketch phase of the portrait.
  • Revisions can only be requested before painting starts. Once paint hits the canvas, features, objects, or elements cannot be moved around.
  • Clients will receive 3 progress photos during the painting phase to track the artwork's development.
  • No further changes can be made once the painting phase has begun.

Shipping & Delivery

  • Clients will be responsible for all shipping costs, which will be calculated based on the destination. Shipping is excluded from the total price of the commission.
  • Insurance must be purchased if the client requests shipping. This ensures the safety of the artwork during transit.
  • In-person exchange of the artwork will only be available for close friends and family.

Timeline to Completion

  • The artist will require 8 to 10 weeks to complete the final painting once the client approves the sketch.
  • This timeline is due to the high volume of work that the artist is simultaneously managing.
  • The artist will provide an estimated completion date upon confirmation of the commission. Please note that the timeline may vary depending on the complexity of the artwork and the artist’s current workload.

Personal Use vs. Commercial Use

  • The artist, Cedric Moore, retains all rights to the artwork.
  • Personal Use:
    • The artwork created by the artist for your commission is intended solely for personal use, which means it is for private enjoyment or display. This usage includes hanging the artwork in your home, gifting it to others, or displaying it in personal spaces. The artwork will not be sold, reproduced, or used for any commercial purposes.
  • Commercial Use:
    • If you intend to sell prints or use the artwork for any commercial purposes (such as marketing, product designs, merchandising, etc.), a license will be required. Since the artist retains the copyright to the artwork, a commercial license must be discussed and agreed upon during the consultation. This license will cover the terms for selling prints, reproducing the artwork, or using it for business purposes.
    • Commercial use will impact the pricing of the artwork, and the specific pricing adjustment will be discussed during the consultation, based on the scope of the commercial use.
